What is IACOW?

Our Vision of the Future
Our goal is to establish a collaborative ecosystem between industry and academia in the offshore wind sector that promotes the growth and ongoing supply of highly skilled professionals, along with the creation of new ideas and technologies to drive innovation. This will make the offshore wind industry an appealing career choice for young individuals.

Message from the Representative

Since the Industrial Revolution, human society has shifted its main energy sources approximately every century. The first hundred years were dominated by steam engines running on coal, while the past century has depended on internal combustion engines using petroleum. Unfortunately, coal and petroleum are found only in specific areas, which has led to competition and conflicts across the globe.

Renewable energy, like wind power, is anticipated to take a leading role in the coming century. As a resource that is widely available to people around the world, renewable energy offers the potential to support the next hundred years and serve as a foundation for a peaceful future where energy is no longer a source of conflict. We consider it our mission to ensure the sustainable utilization of offshore wind energy.

Alongside young individuals eager to advance offshore wind energy, we will keep exploring the future while promoting human resource development as a united consortium.

Consortium Structure

The IACOW consortium is made up of key members from universities and companies. Members hold monthly meetings to plan, execute and review consortium activities. Nagasaki University serves as the lead organization and secretariat, receiving supports from members, collaborative organizations and educational institutions.
Additionally, we collaborate with ECOWIND (the Offshore Wind Human Resources Development Promotion Council), MOPA (Muroran Offshore Wind Industry Promotion Council) and other partner organizations to promote educational initiatives on a broader regional scale.
